- Setting Direction: School boards establish the overall vision and goals for the district, ensuring alignment with community values and priorities.
- Structural Establishment: They create an efficient organizational structure that supports the district’s vision and empowers professional staff.
- Providing Support: While not directly implementing policies or programs, board members hire superintendents and set policies for personnel hiring.
- Ensuring Accountability: Boards hold the district accountable for student outcomes, financial management, and adherence to policies.
- Community Leadership: As advocates for children and public schools, school board members provide leadership within the community

- Student Learning and Achievement
- Fully implement the California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) state academic standards
- Continue to refine EL Master Plan to close achievement gap between EL and EO students
- Develop and expand College and Career Technical Education (CTE) enrichments
- Provide learning opportunities at an early age for school readiness
- Strengthen STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics) instruction at all levels
- Develop a Sense of Connectedness for Students and Staff
- Ensure safe, secure, healthy, and positive environments promoting school connectedness
- Expand extra/co-curricular activities such as Fine/Performing Arts, afterschool enrichment programs and/or athletics
- Implement Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports for the school to reduce incidents that lead to suspension and expulsion
- Implement Multi-tiered Support Systems (MTSS) academically and behaviorally
- Continue to increase ADA% by reducing chronic and irregular student attendance
- Recruit, hire, and retain highly-qualified, talented, and productive staff
- Relentlessly recruit, hire, and maintain highly qualified staff that reflects the CORE values of the school community
- Continue to ensure competitive salary and benefits for all staff
- Improve new employee orientation, increase training, and provide professional development opportunities for all staff
- Expand opportunities in capacity building for all staff within Woodville USD
- Financial and Fiscal Solvency
- Effectively manage resources to strengthen our fiscal foundation by developing budgets that are aligned to the Local Control Accountability Plan and Board Goals
- Effectively manage Federal and State categorical programs to meet applicable audit standards
- Maintain a position of financial stability with reserve levels exceeding the State minimum for Elementary School Districts and consistent with School Board Policy minimum of 10%
- Maintain a position of unqualified audit reports and positive interim certification
- Provide total transparency of the Woodville USD budget with the posting of all budgetary documents on the district website
- Facilities, Projects, and Basic Needs
- All facilities will be clean, safe, secure, and maintained
- Develop a Facility Master Plan/priority list of facility improvement projects and maintenance needs
- Provide total transparency in all services and projects
- Develop a Woodville USD facility needs assessment/scope of work for the utilization of Modernization dollars in 2020
- Positive Community Relations
- Actively engage the community to promote shared responsibility for student success
- Increase participation in parent education, with particular focus on 21st Century Learning, to support student success
- Continue the use of social media and other technology tools to keep parents, staff, and the community informed
- Expand community/industry partnerships to provide opportunities for students to develop career readiness skills
